Off Duty Trooper Tries to Save Man who Collapsed in Hobart

<p>Hobart/Lake County- This Saturday, September 3, 2016, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Trooper Brandon Bohling was off duty driving his semi-marked police car south bound on Main Street near E. 2nd Street in Hobart when he saw an unconscious white male laying in the roadway surrounded by a few people.</p>

<p>Bohling stopped and got out of his police car to render first aid.&nbsp; The male was unresponsive. &nbsp;Bohling told an onlooker to call 911.&nbsp; An onlooker stated they had seen the male walking and then he collapsed.</p>

<p>Bohling and a Good Samaritan rolled the male onto his back.&nbsp; The Good Samaritan was instructed to start chest compressions while Bohling ran back to his police car to retrieve his Automated External Defibrillator (AED).&nbsp; The AED pads was connected to the male and it performed an evaluation advising that the patient was not shockable and advise to begin Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).</p>

<p>The Good Samaritan and Bohling both took turns doing CPR when an onlooker stated the male subject may have been choking.&nbsp; The male was administered the Heimlich maneuver.&nbsp; There were no items that were dislodged.&nbsp; The male was laid back on his back and CPR was resumed.</p>

<p>The male&rsquo;s face was blue at this time and the AED (pads still attached) advised it was doing another evaluation.&nbsp; It again advised the patient was not shockable and to do CPR.&nbsp; Bohling again resumed CPR.</p>

<p>A Hobart police officer arrived and took over CPR until Hobart EMS arrived on scene.&nbsp; The male was transported to Saint Mary&rsquo;s Medical Center in Hobart.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The male, later identified as a sixty-three (63) old from Hobart, was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.&nbsp; Family has been notified.</p>
