Woodway PSD burglary Case Cleared by DNA Match
On September 6, 2016 at approximately 6:15am officers from the Woodway Public Safety Department arrested Jose Pardo, 26, of Waco for Burglary of a Habitation. On September 30, 2015 the Woodway Public Safety Department received a report of a burglary of a residence in the 15000 blk. of Sendero Lane. When officers arrived they discovered the suspect had gained entry to the residence by breaking a window pane to a side entry door. Several items including firearms, televisions, computers, and jewelry were stolen during the burglary.
Detectives discovered small drops of blood on the broken window pane left by the suspect. The blood droplets were swabbed and sent to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Crime Lab for analysis. On July 17, 2016 the DPS lab was able to establish a DNA profile of an unknown male subject from the blood. This DNA profile was entered into the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), a database of known offenders’ DNA profiles. On August 9, 2016 the DPS Lab notified Woodway detectives of a DNA match between the blood discovered at the crime scene and that of Jose Pardo. Jose Pardo was found to have an extensive history for burglary related offenses and had a current warrant for his arrest from the Waco Police Department for Burglary of a Habitation.
On August 29, 2016 detectives obtained a search warrant to obtain a DNA sample from Jose Pardo as well as an arrest warrant for Burglary of a Habitation. Woodway officers located Jose Pardo at his residence in the 1100 blk. of Adams St. in Waco. He was arrested and placed in the McLennan County Jail. Officers also collected a DNA sample from Mr. Pardo. None of the property stolen during the burglary has been located and the investigation is ongoing as to its’ whereabouts and if there are any other possible suspects.
