Quick Action by Police Agencies Results in Apprehension

Putnam County—Around 2:00 this afternoon, Putnam County Central Dispatch alerted all law enforcement agencies about a male who had just fled from a Greencastle Wal-Mart loss prevention officer. The male was reportedly last seen driving a silver Dodge Ram pickup eastbound on State Road 240.

Moments after the dispatch, ISP Sergeant Cory Robinson spotted the silver Dodge Ram pickup westbound on US 40 near County Road 250 East. The suspect then refused to stop for Sgt. Robinson and fled into the Wildwood Lakes subdivision. At the rear of the housing area, the suspect drove through a brush trail and attempted to make it back to the main entrance, but not before crashing into a utility pole and fleeing on foot.

Sergeant Robinson requested police K-9 assistance and immediately answering the call were Cloverdale Police Sergeant Charlie Hallam and K-9 “Chewy”. Multiple Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies set up a security perimeter attempting to contain the suspect while Hallam and “Chewy” attempted a track of the male. Apparently feeling the pressure of the police K-9 track, the suspect was spotted exiting the woods on the north side of Deer Creek near East Tall Oaks Lane where he was taken into custody by Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Biggs.

Cyle A. Duncan, age 29, of Indianapolis, IN.

Duncan was incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail on preliminary charges of Theft, Resisting Law Enforcement with a Motor Vehicle, Driving While Suspended-Prior, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Possession of Paraphernalia, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Dealing of Methamphetamine.

Approximately three grams of suspected methamphetamine was located inside the pickup.

The fleeing and apprehension investigation is being conducted by ISP Sergeant Cory Robinson. Assisting were multiple Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputies and Cloverdale Police Sergeant Charlie Hallam and “Chewy”.

Questions about the Wal-Mart theft allegations should be directed to Greencastle Police Officer Kyle Lee.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
