BOXBOROUGH — Chief Warren B. Ryder reports that the Boxborough Police Department will host prescription drug takeback and unwanted document shredding stations during the town's annual Harvest Fair.

"Unwanted prescriptions and documents that contain sensitive and personal information may not sound like they have a lot in common, but both can potentially make our residents targets for criminals," Chief Ryder said. "By removing unwanted drugs and destroying documents that contain bank account and social security numbers, we are removing items from the home that don't serve any purpose except. We are excited for our Shred-a-Thon and prescription drug takeback events, and we hope people will stop by!"

Improper disposal of sensitive documents can make residents easy targets for identity thieves who can open bank accounts and credit cards and take loans in a person's name and ruin their credit.

Unwanted prescription drugs present a constant danger for residents: they can be stolen, confused for current prescriptions, or ingested by accident by children.

The department cannot accept needles or inhalers at the drug takeback stations, and metal (large paper clamps, 3 ring binders, hanging file folders) are not accepted by the shredders.
