Advisory

Lapaz Fire Chief recommends Lapaz residents well's be tested for contamination due to the recent flooding event.

Due to the flooding events town wide and throughout North Township, it is recommended that your well be tested for contamination from the flood waters. Testing kits and chlorination tablets will be made available to those that were effected hopefully tomorrow morning. In the mean time it is advised to boil all water that would be used for drinking and cooking. Electrical safety is very important, do not enter flooded basements as the risk of electrocution is greatly increased. Should you need assistance with pumping out a flooded basement feel free to contact the Marshall County Central Dispatch Center at (574) 936-3187 or Chief Chris Oginsky at (574) 303-2883. And our dedicated members will come out to see how we can help. As always if you encounter flooded roadways turn around and don't drown. There is a good chance the water is much deeper than you think. Along with the possibility of a sink hole in the middle of the flooded area. A temporary shelter has been set up at Lapaz Fire Department 411 South Michigan Street for those who are effected and have had to leave their homes. Be sure to check on out door pets making sure they have safe drinking water and flood contaminants are washed off of them. If you need assistance from us don't hesitate to call either number above. Chief Chris Oginsky Lapaz - North Township Fire Department. PIO (574) 303-2883 Chris Oginsky Lapaz-North Twp Fire Chief (574)303-2883
