Man Killed on I-80/94 After Jumping from Overpass
Gary, Lake County-A Gary man jumped off the Colfax Street over pass into the west bound lanes of I-80/94 where he was hit and died.
Preliminary investigation by the Indiana State Police Master Trooper Lionel Douglas revealed that a 2003 Pontiac, driven by a fifty six (56) year old male from Gary, stopped on the Colfax Street overpass, got out of his vehicle put the hood up and jumped off the overpass. Family has been notified.
The man landed in the middle lane (5 lanes) where a 2014 Kenworth semi pulling a box trailer, owned by Winnebago Industries out of Forest City, Iowa, loaded with 43,000 pounds of recreational vehicle parts, and driven by a fifty one (51) year old man from Rudd, Iowa was unable to avoid hitting him.
The male subject from Gary was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lake County Coroner.
