Arrest Made in Sullivan Animal Neglect Investigation
Sullivan County—This evening at approximately 8:20, Indiana State Police Detective Angie Hahn and Sullivan Police Officers Chief Jesse Morin and Sergeant Dave Story arrested a male at the Sullivan Police Department in connection with the investigation into animal neglect allegations at 311 East Washington Street in Sullivan.
Arrested: David E. Weger, age 38, no permanent address
Reportedly a past renter of the 311 East Washington Street residence
Charges: (17) Counts of Abandoned and Animal Neglect (Misdemeanors)
Incarcerated in the Sullivan County Jail
Bond set at $68,000 with 10%
On Saturday, September 10, officers went to 311 East Washington Street in Sullivan to serve a Sullivan County Superior Court search warrant and discovered two Pitbull dogs, two mixed breed dogs, four live rabbits and twenty-one deceased rabbits. The residence appeared to have numerous amounts of animal feces and urine, flea infestation, dry animal food scattered about and no running water. In the backyard of the residence, officers discovered two burial sites which contained what appeared to be two bludgeoned dogs and one rabbit.
The investigation is ongoing and should any new developments in the case arise, they will be released in a timely manner.
Assisting today were the Sullivan County Humane Society and the Sullivan County Prosecutor’s Office. Assisting on September 10 was the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.
