Happy Ending for Louie
Porter County-This past weekend, Senior Trooper Lawrence McFarrin went above the call of duty to unite a wayward dog back with his family.
On Saturday, at approximately 2:15 P.M., McFarrin was dispatched to a dog running on Interstate 94 east bound near the 24 mile marker (this is two miles west of the Chesterton exit). McFarrin soon came in contact with a well-groomed, un-collared dog running excitedly in the east bound lanes of traffic.
When McFarrin tried to capture the dog on the inner shoulder it jumped the barrier wall there and began running west bound in the west bound lanes of traffic. Numerous motorists on both the east and west bound sides stopped and attempted to help McFarrin capture the dog. Eventually, the dog finally gave up do to fatigue/exhaustion and allowed them to capture him in the north ditch.
A Good Samaritan, Charles Law of Portage, remained with McFarrin during the capture process and drove the dog in his vehicle to the animal shelter in Hobart. The dog was not injured.
Trooper McFarrin called local police departments and posted the escaped dog’s information on Facebook hoping to reunite the dog with its owner.
The dog was reunited with his owner, who resides in Porter, the next day.
The dog “Louie” was a rescue dog and had escaped when a gate was left open.
