Woodward Turns Himself into the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department In Police Action Shooting
Jasper County-George Woodward, age 41, turned himself into the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, yesterday, Monday, September 12, 2016, and was booked into the Jasper County Jail on eight felony charges stemming from a police action shooting that occurred in 2014.
On August 18th, 2016, the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against George R. Woodward stemming from an Indiana State Police investigation into a Jasper County Sheriff’s Department shooting.
On the night of November 25th, 2014, Jasper County Sheriff Deputies responded to a disturbance at a home near 950 North and 950 West in Jasper County. Deputies encountered Woodward who appeared “agitated and aggressive”. Woodward retreated back to the residence where he retrieved a rifle. Woodward eventually came back outdoors and was ordered to drop the weapon by the deputies. Woodward refused and instead pointed the loaded rifle at the deputies. One deputy fired a single shot, striking Woodward in the shoulder. He was transported to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary.

- Attempted Murder (Class 1 Felony)
- Attempted Aggravated Battery (Class 3 Felony)
- Attempted Aggravated Battery (Class 3 Felony)
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon(Class 4 Felony)
- Criminal Recklessness (Class 6 Felony)
- Criminal Recklessness (Class 6 Felony)
- Resisting Law Enforcement (Class 6 Felony)
- Pointing a Firearm at another (Class 6 Felony)
