Bloomington – Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter has announced the promotion of Master Trooper Todd Durnil to the position of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer (CVEO), to serve the Bloomington District. CVEO Durnil’s primary responsibilities will be enforcing all Federal and State Laws pertaining to the operation of commercial motor vehicles, motor coaches and trucks. Durnil will also investigate related complaints and conduct intra/interstate compliance reviews. CVEO Durnil will also be conducting school bus inspections and assisting with investigations of crashes involving hazardous materials.
Originally from Ellettsville, CVEO Master Trooper Todd Durnil is a 1987 graduate of Edgewood High School. He attended Indiana University while serving in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the 48th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and in 1990 was appointed as a Trooper and assigned to the Seymour District where he patrolled Jackson County. In 1995 Durnil transferred to the Bloomington District where he primarily patrolled Monroe County.
In 2004, CVEO Durnil was promoted as a member of the first Indiana State Police Motorcycle Patrol Squad since the 1940’s, where he served as a Squad Leader until 2012. Durnil has also served on other specialty teams for the department including the ISP Bomb Squad and the Tactical Intervention Platoon Team (Riot Squad). Durnil has also served as a Firearms Instructor & Armorer.
Todd and his wife Dawn have been married for 26 years and are residents of Monroe County. They have two adult children, Ryan, who is currently serving in the United States Navy and Harrison, who is attending Ohio Technical College.
