Covina Captain John Curley Announced as New Covina Chief of Police
<p>On September 15, 2016, Interim City Manager Don Penman announced that Covina Police Department Captain John Curley has been selected as the new Chief of Police for the City of Covina. Captain Curley will replace Interim Chief of Police Kim Raney, who will retire on October 13, 2016 after 39 years of service with the City of Covina, 16 years of which were as the Chief of Police.</p>
<p>Captain John Curley is a 23 year veteran of the Covina Police Department. Prior to joining the Covina Police Department, Captain Curley served as a Police Reserve Officer for 3 years with the Monterey Park Police Department.</p>
<p>Captain Curley holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management from Cal Poly Pomona. He also holds his Master’s Degree in Leadership and Management from The University of La Verne. He completed The Leadership 21 Program from The University of Southern California and is a graduate of The Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute. Captain Curley also participated in Rotary International’s Group Study Exchange where he traveled throughout Japan learning about law enforcement in that country.</p>
<p>Captain Curley will assume the position of Chief of Police on October 14, 2016 and the financial terms of his employment are pending.</p>

Captain Curley was selected from a list of exceptionally qualified applicants from both within the Covina Police Department and from other law enforcement agencies throughout the state. Captain Curley’s law enforcement experience, formal education, as well as his understanding of the needs of both the community and the organization, makes him the right choice for Covina.” </p>
