A Simple Speeding Ticket Lands Suspect in Jail

Tippecanoe County-Today at approximately 10:05 a.m. on US 52 east near CR 550 south (that is about two miles south of Veterans Memorial Parkway intersection), a Trooper was on traffic patrol when a pickup truck passed him speeding and took off when the trooper attempted to stop him.

Master Trooper Aaron McCormick was in full uniform driving his unmarked Ford Mustang patrol vehicle when a white 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck passed him doing 70 miles per hour in a 60 zone. When McCormick attempted to stop the pickup, it took off and McCormick continued to follow the pickup. It turned right onto CR 550 south and continued at a high rate of speed. The pickup turned north on CR 550 east and then stopped the truck and bailed out into a corn field and ran.

McCormick requested assistance and numerous troopers arrived along with Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department and Lafayette Fire Department with their ladder truck. Indiana State Police K-9 Trooper Dave Millburg and his K-9 “Colt” arrived and started tracking the suspect. After about an hour, “Colt” found the suspect laying down in the bean field. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Tippecanoe County Jail.

The suspect, Carlos M. Molina, 27 of Lafayette was initially charged with speeding, resisting Law Enforcement, and was also wanted on a active warrant out of Lafayette Police Department. Other charges are pending. He was transported to Tippecanoe County Jail. The investigation is continuing.
