ISP SWAT Finds Suspect Hiding in Crawl Space Area

ISP SWAT Finds Suspect Hiding in Crawl Space Area

Vigo County—Just before noon today, the Indiana State Police Central Area SWAT team was requested to assist the Terre Haute Police Department for a possible barricaded male in the residence at 3111 South 9 ½ Street in Terre Haute. The male was reportedly wanted on Vigo County warrants for Resisting Law Enforcement (misdemeanor); Battery with Moderate Bodily Injury (felony); Domestic Battery (misdemeanor); Residential Entry (felony); Domestic Battery (misdemeanor); and Operating While Intoxicated (misdemeanor). The suspect was supposedly hiding in the residence as other occupants left the home.

ISP Hostage Crisis Negotiators attempted to make contact with the suspect for several minutes to no avail. ISP SWAT team members then utilized the ISP Armored Vehicle to force open the rear door of the residence allowing them to deploy a camera equipped robot that ultimately allowed them to view a suspicious area in the flooring near the rear of the residence. SWAT members opened the flooring and discovered the suspect, 41-year-old Frank D. Porter hiding in a crawl space area. Porter was taken into custody without incident just before 3:00p.m. and taken to the Vigo County Jail.

His 38-year-old reportedly ex-wife, Rachel Porter, was taken into custody by the Terre Haute Police Department for a Vigo County warrant for misdemeanor conversion.

The Terre Haute Police Department is conducting the arrests and investigative questions should be directed to that agency.

The attached picture is ISP SWAT K-9 Officer Greg Magee and his K-9 “John E”, Frank Porter, and THPD Officer Phillip Raulston. The other pic is a general scene pic of Porter being placed into THPD car.

ISP questions should be directed to ISP Sergeant Joe Watts.

Assisting were multiple ISP troopers, THPD officers, ISP EOD, and the Terre Haute Fire Department.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
