Palmdale Sheriff’s Detectives would like to make the public aware of a scam that has been targeting local residents here in the Antelope Valley. The scam starts off with unknown suspect(s) who approaches a residence and identifies them self as an employee of a government agency. The suspect(s) confronts the homeowners stating they have an outstanding tax debt. The homeowners are told if they pay cash on the spot or supply them with iTunes cards or “Green Dot” cards, they will be exempted from any penalties and will not be arrested.
We ask the public to use extreme caution when anyone approaches your door, especially if they demand money. There is no government agency that will demand cash at your door nor ask for or accept gift cards in lieu of payment.
