<p><strong>Modesto, CA </strong>&ndash; At about 5:45 a.m., officers responded to a 9-1-1 call of a traffic accident involving a pedestrian on McHenry Avenue near Woodrow Avenue.&nbsp; When they arrived on scene they found 45-year-old Sarah Getreu in the roadway, unresponsive.&nbsp; She was rushed to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The preliminary investigation reveals that 40-year-old Roberto Mendoza was driving a 2014 Nissan Altima southbound on McHenry when he struck Getreu while she was crossing McHenry between Woodrow and Rumble.&nbsp; Mendoza remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.&nbsp; Mendoza did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.</p>

<p>As standard practice in a fatal vehicle collision, the Modesto Police Department Traffic Unit has initiated a comprehensive collision investigation.&nbsp; This investigation is in the early stages and witness statements as well as physical evidence is being thoroughly evaluated before any collision factor or cause will be determined.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
