<p>On Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at approximately 10:22 a.m., Greene County Sheriff&#39;s Deputies responded to a home located in the 800 block of East Doubletree Lane in southeastern Greene County in reference to a 9-1-1 call of a reported disturbance involving a firearm. Upon Deputies&#39; arrival, they located a 61-year old female at a neighbor&#39;s home who confirmed she was involved in the incident. Deputies attempted to contact the other party involved when they located the 62-year old male, later identified as Mark K. Lanier, with a visible gunshot wound and immediately rendered medical attention. Despite lifesaving measures, Mr. Lanier was later pronounced as deceased. &quot;In these early stages of our investigation, it is difficult to determine the exact events leading up to the moments before our Deputies contacted Mr. Lanier,&quot; states Sheriff Jim Arnott. &quot;GCSO Detectives are actively investigating this incident, processing the crime scene, conducting interviews and a neighborhood canvass to learn the course of events prior to Deputies&#39; arrival. An autopsy to determine an official cause of death has been scheduled for later this week where several Detectives will be in attendance. We can assure our citizens this appears to be an isolated incident and there are no concerns for the public&#39;s safety.&quot; After further investigation, Deputies have responded to this home at least two times in the past few years relating to harassment reports filed by the residents; no other calls related to domestic violence or disturbances were located. *A charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.*</p>
