Motor Carrier Inspector Promoted
Pendleton – Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter recently announced the promotion of Master Motor Carrier Inspector Melinda Shelton to the position of District Coordinator. As District Coordinator Shelton will be in charge of Area 2 Motor Carrier Inspectors and scale facilities in Richmond, Ft.Wayne and the Toll Road.
Shelton, a Connersville native, graduated from Connersville High School in 1986, and from I.U. East in 1992 with a degree in business. She began her career with the Indiana State Police in 1988, graduating from the Motor Carrier Inspector Training Academy in 1988.
She worked in the Lafayette and Terre Haute Districts before transferring back to the Connersville District in 1995. Shelton has been an instructor for her division since 2008, and is also an instructor for the National Training Center in Washington D.C., where she has taught Hazardous Material and North American Part “B” Inspections for commercial motor vehicles.
In 2015 Shelton won the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division Inspector Competition, which qualified her to represent Indiana in the 2015 North American Inspector Competition. Shelton was chosen for her new position after competing in a process that included oral interview, seniority, education, along with job responsibilites and performance.
