<p>The Southern Pines Police Department announces the arrests of Isaiah Tyquan Allen, 21 years of age, of Durham, North Carolina, and Thomas Edward Allen, 18 years of age, of Durham, North Carolina. Isaiah Tyquan Allen has been charged with two (2) counts of Felony Conspiracy, two (2) counts of Conspiracy to Obtain Property by False Pretenses, Forgery/Possession of Counterfeit Currency and Possession of Marijuana. Thomas Edward Alston has been charged with four (4) counts of Attempting to Obtain Property by False Pretenses, three (3) counts of Conspiracy to Obtain Property by False Pretenses and three (3) counts of Forgery/Possession of Counterfeit Currency.</p>
<p>On Wednesday, September 21, 2016, the Southern Pines Police Department received information that a counterfeit one hundred dollar bill had been passed at the Fresh Market located in Southern Pines. Investigators from the Southern Pines Police Department have been actively conducting an investigation into other counterfeit incidents that have been occurring in Southern Pines and other jurisdictions in Moore County. Using the intelligence information that had been gathered during this, and the prior counterfeit incidents, the Patrol Division and the Investigation Division from the Southern Pines Police Department were able to locate the suspects in a vehicle as they attempted to leave Pinecrest Plaza located on U.S. Highway 15/501 in Southern Pines. Additional counterfeit one hundred dollar bills were located on the suspects at the time of their arrest. In addition to the recovered counterfeit currency, a K-9 from the Southern Pines Police Department assisted in locating marijuana and additional counterfeit currency that was hidden in the suspect’s vehicle. Following these arrests, it was determined that the suspects attempted to pass a counterfeit one hundred dollar bill at the Food Lion located in the Pinecrest Plaza but were unsuccessful in doing so due to an alert cashier.</p>
<p>Chief Bob Temme made the following statement following these arrests: “<em>Congratulations to the businesses in our community that remained vigilant when accepting large denomination currency. By partnering with the Southern Pines Police Department, this collaborative effort ended a crime spree not only in Southern Pines, but neighboring jurisdictions as well</em>.”</p>
<p> Isaiah Tyquan Allen appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and was incarcerated in the Moore County Detention Center under a $75,000.00 secured bond pending a court appearance on October 10, 2016 in Moore County District Court.</p>
