Impaired Driver Jailed After Causing Trooper to Run off Roadway
Huntingburg: An impaired driver was jailed on Operating While Intoxicated charges Sunday after he caused an Indiana State Trooper to drive off of the road to avoid a crash.
At 2:40 P.M. Sunday, Trooper Brock Werne had just participated in the Huntingburg Herbsfest Parade, and was patrolling South Cherry Street in Huntingburg when he observed a tan pick-up truck traveling northbound in the southbound lane. Werne was forced to drive off the side of the road into a yard to avoid being struck.
After turning around, Werne was finally able to stop the truck on Cherry Ridge Road, and identified the driver as 45 year old Jeffrey Greenwell of Huntingburg. Through the course of the investigation, Werne found that Greenwell had a blood alcohol content of 0.156%. Greenwell was placed into custody and lodged in the Dubois County Security Center.
Every day of the week, around the clock, the Indiana State Police is working to keep our roadways safe and free of impaired and intoxicated drivers. Are you doing your part? If you drink alcoholic beverages, have a plan to get home safe.
