Cooperative Effort Between Departments Target Commercial Motor Vehicles

Porter County-Last week three Indiana State troopers, Master Trooper Tom Devries, Troopers Nadal Nabhan and Jacob Raupp assigned to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division and Sergeant Paul Czupryn with the Porter County Sheriff’s Department joined forces to focus on trucks.

This combined effort was focused on stopping unsafe and overweight semis/trucks on U.S. 20 in Porter County due to the high volume of truck traffic on that road.

In five days these four officers did:

  • 5- Level One Inspections (North American Standard Inspection)-this entails the drivers and vehicles paperwork, hours of service, turn signal, head and tail lights, load securement, brakes, wheels, and etc.
  • 23-Level Two Inspections (Walk-Around Driver/Vehicle Inspection)-this involves examining everything in the Level 1 inspection with exception of the parts that involve the officer getting under the semi/truck.
  • 14-Out of Service Inspections
  • 191- Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) violations
  • 47-Portable Weighs
  • 16-Overweight Citations
  • 10-Overweight Impounds
  • 7-Overweight Permit Violations
  • 42-traffic (moving) arrests
  • 34-warnings
  • 8-seat belt citations
  • 21 public services

The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division is responsible for enforcing state and federal regulations of commercial motor vehicles in the state. The division also conducts and manages Indiana's school bus inspection program and motor carrier safety audits.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
