Anderson P.D. Recovers Stolen Vehicle after Pursuit

On Tuesday, October 5th 2016, an Anderson Police Officer spotted a stolen, 2003, Ford, F150, pick-up truck being driven by 46 year old, David Alan Schott. The officer followed the stolen vehicle southbound on State Hwy 273 and waited to initiate a vehicle stop until back-up units were in position. The truck turned off of Hwy 273 and was driving southbound on West Center Street towards South Street when the officer turned on his emergency lights and siren. Schott failed to yield and continued driving westbound onto South Street and then southbound on West Anderson Drive.

Anderson P.D. pursued Schott approximately 1.6 miles south on West Anderson Drive from South Street. Schott then turned off the road and drove another 1.5 miles westbound into cattle fields west of West Anderson Drive. Speeds reached 90 M.P.H. during the pursuit. Schott purposefully drove recklessly and crashed through three cattle gates trying to evade pursuing officers. The pursuit terminated when Schott attempted to drive the stolen Ford up a hill. Schott jumped out of the moving truck and fled on foot while the truck rolled backward and crashed into a tree.

Schott’s girlfriend, was a passenger in the vehicle and was taken by ambulance to a local area hospital for treatment of some minor injuries sustained. She was later released. Her name is being withheld due to her status as a victim in this case. While police were dealing with the safety of the scene, the vehicle and the passenger, Schott ran away on foot. Schott has a long criminal history which includes prior arrests for a number of theft related crimes and other violations.

Charges will be filed against Schott with the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office.
