<p>Residents have been receiving a notice from Publishers Clearing House via the U.S. Mail claiming they won $2.5 million dollars along with a check as an advance of their winnings. The recipient is required to call the Claims Manager at one of two telephone numbers before depositing the check into their bank account. One number is a cellular telephone number registered in Ontario, Canada and the other number is non-existent. If the Claims Manager is called, the fraudster solicits information and then provides deposit instructions. Once the check is deposited, the fraudster then directs the victim to purchase a number of gift type cards and then requests the gift card account numbers, etc., for verification, thus depleting most, if not all of the deposited funds.</p>
