Marshall County – The Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay made its way around Michiana Wednesday and one member of the Indiana State Police was lucky enough to be chosen as a Torch Bearer.
Bremen Posts own Master Trooper Jason Faulstich carried the torch twice as it entered Marshall County and then the city of Bremen. Faulstich was first passed the torch on US 6 in front of Pla-Mor Campground where he boarded a Bourbon Fire Department truck and made his way to the historic Bremen Train Depot. Faulstich then passed the torch off and was positioned on West Plymouth St. in Bremen. He was handed the torch a final time in front of Ace Hardware before running a 1/2 mile finishing his leg at the Bremen VFW Post 8972.
The torch relay began on September 9 in Corydon, the state’s first capital, before continuing on a 3,200 mile journey across the state traveling through all 92 counties. The relay was designed to inspire Hoosiers and promote unity across the state by connecting people, communities, and regions. The Torch Bearers are walkers and runners and they use modes of transportation that are representative of Indiana culture and heritage to move the torch along its route.
Faulstich commented that he was both honored and surprised that he was selected to participate in the Torch Relay. He stated that his wife Angie and his two sons Logan, age 13 and Aidan, age 9 nominated him as a Torch Bearer several months ago without his knowledge. The Torch Bearers were chosen from nominations by each county in the state.
