Details re: Traffic Fatality Investigation Willow/Lakewood
On Friday, October 7, 2016, at approximately 9:36 a.m., Long Beach Police were dispatched to East Willow Street and Lakewood Boulevard regarding an injury traffic collision involving a semi-truck and a pedestrian, which resulted in the death of a female adult.
Arriving officers located an unconscious female adult pedestrian lying on Lakewood Boulevard, just north of the crosswalk. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and determined the pedestrian deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2000 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer was traveling west on Willow Street and turning north on Lakewood Boulevard, when it struck the pedestrian. According to witness statements, the pedestrian was legally crossing in the crosswalk.
The pedestrian is described as a 63-year-old resident of Long Beach. The Los Angeles County Coroner will positively identify the pedestrian and notify next of kin.
The driver, a 53-year-old resident of La Puente, remained at the scene.
