Modesto, CA – Early this morning, officers were called to investigate a family disturbance in the 1500 block of Queens Avenue. The caller reported his 53-year-old daughter was intoxicated and vandalizing the inside of his residence.

Officers responded but the suspect had left the home. Approximately one hour later the suspect returned to the residence and the caller reported she was now armed with a knife.

Officers arrived and as they were walking up to the home, the suspect confronted them in the street, armed with multiple knives. As officers were giving verbal commands for the suspect to drop the knives, she advanced rapidly at them with the knives raised above her head. Officers utilized a taser, bean bags and one officer used his duty weapon. She was rushed to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The three officers involved in this incident were uninjured and placed on paid administrative leave, which is a standard procedure with all officer-involved shootings.

Investigators are in the preliminary stages of processing the crime scene, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Three separate and independent investigations have been launched into this incident. The Modesto Police Department is conducting both a criminal and administrative investigation and the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent review of the incident.
