ISP Traffic Stop Leads to Several Drug Related Felony Charges
Brown County - Earlier this week Trooper Chris Griggs conducted a traffic stop on SR 46 near Gnawbone, east of Nashville. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jami M. Martin, of Columbus Indiana. During the stop, Martin attempted to exit the vehicle, while Trooper Griggs instructed him more than once to remain in the car. Martin then placed his vehicle in gear, travelling west through a parking lot, then through a yard and attempted to come back out onto State Road 46. Seeing he could not enter back onto State Road 46, Martin exited his vehicle and fled on foot behind residences on State Road 46 but was apprehended a short time later by Trooper Griggs.
Nashville Police Officer Matt Hatchett, Brown County Sheriff’s Deputies Sergeant William Southerland and Lieutenant Mike Moore arrived and assisted at the scene. Two bags of a crystal type substance were discovered on Martin’s person. Another three bags of crystal type substance were located under a tree where Martin had been, by Sgt Southerland and Lt. Moore with the assistance of Southerland’s K-9. Also found in the same place was a hat Martin had been wearing when he fled on foot. Martin admitted the substance found on his person was Methamphetamine. Martin was transported and lodged at the Brown County Jail.
