GCSO identify 30-yr old man who died from a gunshot wound after a domestic disturbance with his father
On Tuesday, October 11, 2016, Greene County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a home in the 4100 block of West Farm Road 172 in southwest Greene County in reference to a domestic disturbance between a 60-year old father and his 30-year old son, later identified as CRAIG W. VILES. Deputies located Viles inside the home with a visible gunshot wound to the chest; he was transported to a local hospital but later died from his injuries. The father was taken into custody for questioning and detained while Detectives processed the crime scene; he has been released from custody at this time.
The investigation is still on-going and no charges have been submitted to the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office as of yet. It is not uncommon for formal charges not to be submitted within 24 hours and presented later for review upon completion of the investigation which may span several weeks or months.
An autopsy was conducted this morning; the official cause of death is pending toxicology tests results which could take several weeks.
The Greene County Sheriff's Office had been called to this home at least three times in the past 2 years for other domestic disturbances involving Viles and his father.
*A charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.*
