TEMPLE DEPUTIES RESCUE ELDERLY COUPLE FROM RESIDENTIAL FIRE
On October 15, 2016, Temple Station Deputies Jaqueline Morales and Orlando Macias were driving past 8810 Broadway, North San Gabriel, when they noticed thick smoke billowing out of the residence. They stopped and were attempting to make entry when an elderly male came to the door. The deputies escorted him outside but due to a language barrier the deputies were not sure if anyone else was inside the residence. The deputies entered into the smoke filled house by crawling through the house on their hands and knees to find their way. After several attempts trying to locate anyone else and having to keep getting fresh air from outside, the deputies finally discovered an elderly female with a walker inside. Deputies Morales and Macias carried her outside to safety. Los Angeles County Fire and San Gabriel City Fire responded and extinguished a grease fire in the kitchen of the residence.
The elderly couple was transported to San Gabriel Community Hospital by Los Angeles County Fire where they were treated for smoke inhalation.
Both deputies were transported by San Gabriel City Fire to Huntington Memorial Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. The Deputies are doing well and have been released back to full duty.
