San Dimas Mountain Rescue Team activated in search of lost motorcyclist, rider located by Air 5 helicopter
The San Dimas Mountain Rescue Team was activated overnight in the search for a missing motorcyclist. This morning, the missing motorcycle was located, and it appears the man is deceased.
At about 10:36 p.m. on October 17, 2016, San Dimas Station received a report from two motorcyclists, informing us that they lost sight of their companion, a 32 year old male from Los Angeles, on Highway 39 above East Fork Road. Upon riding to the north end of Highway 39 above Crystal Lake, the two men became concerned because they could not find their companion. Upon searching the road themselves to no avail, the Sheriff’s Department was called. LASD patrol units and the San Dimas Mountain Rescue Team searched the many miles of roadway in vain. A search from the air was hampered by weather conditions. At about 7:00 a.m., LASD Air 5 located a crash site near Highway 39 mile marker 32.51 near Coldbrook campground. A deceased male was found near the crash site. The motorcycle and rider were located off the roadway. LASD is supporting the California Highway Patrol in the crash investigation. The name of the deceased is unavailable pending further investigation and notification to next of kin.
The San Gabriel Mountains are full of beautiful vistas in the back yard of the L.A. basin. Thousands of visitors enjoy these sights each year. Visitors are reminded to use extreme caution on these mountain roads, especially in hours of darkness.
