Saturday, Oct. 22, is the Legend of Sleepy Howell event. There will be MULTIPLE street closures.

Saturday, October 22, 2016 marks the 14th annual Legend of Sleepy Howell event. This is a great family event, offering trick-or-treating for kids in downtown Howell. The event times are 6:00pm - 9:00pm. There are lots of kid-friendly events and entertainment.

One of the big components of the event are the Headless Horseman runs. There are three races:

The Monster Mile (starts at 7:00pm)

The 5k and 10k Headless Horseman runs (both start at 7:30pm)

There will be MULTIPLE street closures for this event. It is recommended that visitors plan on arriving early to find legal parking spaces. Vehicles parked blocking driveways or in other illegal spots will be ticketed and/or towed. For the street closures, motorists should follow all detour signs and allow a little extra time.

* Grand River will be CLOSED at 3:00pm between Byron Road and National Street. Eastbound traffic will be detoured onto George Street and then to Sibley Street. Westbound traffic will be detoured onto National Street and then to Clinton Street.

* Many of the residential streets north of the downtown area will be CLOSED for the duration of the various foot races. Please refer to the map and try to avoid those areas. We are expecting approximately 1,000 runners, so the area will be very congested. Citizens living in those areas should plan on NOT exiting those areas after 6:30pm.

* Streets will all re-open as soon as the various events conclude.
