GCSO arrest 29-yr old man after being led in pursuit through western Springfield. No one injured, no damages
On Thursday, October 20, 2016, Greene County Sheriff's Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of West Chestnut Expressway and South Westbypass. The vehicle also matched the description of a stolen vehicle reported to the Springfield Police Department (case #16-42226) which was possibly involved in an assault. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop when the driver failed to yield, leading Deputies in a pursuit through western Springfield.
The driver lost control of the vehicle after striking a curb and fled on foot in the area of South Kansas Expressway and West Mount Vernon Street. A good Samaritan stopped and assisted Deputies in apprehending the fleeing suspect. When Deputies attempted to arrest him, he resisted arrest and Deputies deployed a Taser before successfully taking him into custody.
"We are thankful no one was injured, from one of our citizens to any of the Deputies involved, nor was there any property damage," states Sheriff Jim Arnott.
*A charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.*
