<p>Mercersburg Borough Trick or Treat Night is scheduled for Saturday, October 29, 2016, between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.</p>

<p>All Mercersburg Borough residents who wish to participate in the Mercersburg Trick or Treat Night should turn their porch light(s) on between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday October 29, 2016.</p>

<p>If you do not wish to participate, do not turn on your porch light(s).</p>

<p>Parent of children participate in Trick or Treat night are reminded to go only to houses with their porch lights on, and never enter a home or car for a treat.</p>

<p>Please consider the following tips if you have children who will participate in Trick or Treat Night:</p>

<p>Each child should carry or wear something lit, such as a flashlight, glow bracelet or necklace, or flashing attire for visibility.</p>

<p>Be sure walking areas are well-lit and free of obstacles.</p>

<p>parents or responsible adult should ALWAYS accompany young children.</p>

<p>When walking down the street, have the adult walk closest to the road and the children closest to the houses.</p>

<p>Do not run ahead of the adults - It&#39;s very easy for children to get carried away and accidentally run into the road.</p>

<p>Parents of older children going alone should plan a route that is acceptable and agree on a specific time when they should be home.</p>

<p>Stay in a group and communicate where they will be going.</p>

<p>Carry a cell phone for quick communication.</p>

<p>Remain on well-lit streets and always use the sidewalk when available.</p>

<p>Never cut across yards or use alleys.</p>

<p>Don&#39;t assume the right of way.&nbsp; Motorists may have trouble seeing Trick or Treaters.</p>

<p>When you get home, check all of the candy before allowing children to eat any of it.</p>

<p>YOU ARE LOOKING FOR:</p>

<p>*old worn wrappers</p>

<p>*torn wrappers (even with the smallest hold)</p>

<p>*homemade treats</p>

<p>*unwrapped treats</p>

<p>*toys with small parts that may be a chocking hazard</p>

<p>*money (change)</p>

<p>*fruit</p>

<p>*any candy that looks like it may have been tampered with</p>

<p>*for small children, remove any hard candies.&nbsp; They tend to become slick once in the mouth and can quickly become a chocking hazard.</p>

<p>*glass or sharp objects.</p>

<p>If you find any of the above mentioned items, its best to discard them, there will still be plenty of treats to go around afterwards!!</p>

<p>The Mercersburg Police Department, telephone number (717) 328-2221, should be notified immediately of any suspicious or unlawful activity.</p>
