Deflecto, LLC Donates 1,000 Safety Arrows to Indiana State Police
Indianapolis – Today (Oct. 26, 2016) the Indiana State Police gratefully accepted the donation of 1,000 Safety Arrows from Deflecto, LLC, an international company headquartered on the northeast side of Indianapolis, IN.
The Safety Arrow is a highly reflective magnetic safety device that is easily and rapidly placed on any metal surface. It is primarily designed to be placed on the rear of a vehicle parked to the side of the road the result of being disabled, out of fuel, or due to being involved in a traffic crash.
Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter said, “It is truly remarkable when a Hoosier based company, like Deflecto, makes such a generous donation that will contribute to the safety of so many people.” Carter continued, “These Safety Arrows will now be part of the safety equipment carried in our police vehicles and will add one more level of protection when troopers are assisting disabled motorists or directing traffic around a crash scene.” Carter concluded, “What makes this day even more special is knowing this safety device was invented by a retired Indiana State Police officer.”
Mr. Paul Thompson, President of Deflecto, commented, “We’re extremely proud to partner with the Indiana State police and provide them with a new tool to promote safety on the roads. Deflecto stands behind the men and women in law enforcement and we wanted to find a way to help contribute to their safety and the safety of Hoosier drivers.”
Speaking of his invention, Mr. Ken Greves said, “An arrow is a universally recognized symbol. The Deflecto Safety Arrow is ultra-bright and is designed to trigger an immediate reaction in drivers, to instinctively move away from a stopped vehicle or a crash.”
After the announcement of the donation, valued at $20,000, members of the Indiana State Police and Deflecto demonstrated how the Safety Arrow is easily placed on a vehicle. Photos were also on display to demonstrate the difference in day and night visibility, both with and without a Safety Arrow on the back of a vehicle.
Background / Benefits of the Safety Allow:
- The Safety Arrow was developed by Ken Greves, a retired Indiana State Police Sergeant and inventor of the “Stop Stick®,” a tool police across the country currently use to end high-speed car chases.
- Greves designed the reflective arrow while looking for a solution to secondary crashes he saw during his career with the Indiana State Police.
- The Safety Arrow can be opened in seconds and uses magnets to attach directly to the vehicle. They are highly visible, don’t need batteries and can be pointed in any direction.
