Sheriff Rick Walter said deputies will do compliance checks on sexual offenders during Halloween activities
<p>Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said deputies will be conducting sexual offender compliance checks during Halloween activities this year.</p>
<p>Walter said Missouri State Law prohibits certain convicted sexual offenders from participating in Halloween activities.</p>
<p>According to RSMo. 589.426.1, any person required to register as a sexual offender under sections 589.400 to 589.425 shall be required on October 31st of each year to:</p>
<p>Avoid all Halloween-related contact with children</p>
<p>Remain inside his or her residence between the hours of 5 PM and 10:30 PM unless required to be elsewhere for just cause, including but not limited to employment or medical emergencies</p>
<p>Post a sign at his or her residence stating, "No candy or treats at this residence"</p>
<p>Leave all outside residential lighting off during the evening hours after 5 PM</p>
<p>Any person required to register as a sexual offender under sections 589.400 to 589.425 who violates this particular law shall be guilty of a class A misdemeanor.</p>
<p>Walter said his office will pursue criminal charges against persons found to be in violation.</p>
