Domestic Altercation Leads to Police Action Shooting

Ripley County-Yesterday, at approximately 5:00 pm, officers with the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, and Indiana Excise Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence located at 4756 North County Road 850 West, Holton, Indiana.

When the initial officers arrived on scene, the homeowner, Timmy Wayne Bowman, age 48, barricaded himself in the residence with a firearm.  At one point, Bowman exited the residence and fired at least one shot at the officers who were positioned outside.  A four year veteran of the Indiana State Police returned fire, striking Bowman.  Bowman then retreated back inside the residence.

The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team and Crisis Negotiators responded to the scene and attempted to negotiate with Bowman.  At approximately 10:00 pm, Bowman surrendered to members of the Emergency Response Team without further incident.

Officers immediately administered first aid to Bowman.  He was then treated on scene by paramedics before being flown to the University of Cincinnati Trauma Center.  His condition is unknown at this time.  At the conclusion of the investigation, this case will be turned over to the Ripley County Prosecutor’s Office for review for possible charges.

The investigation is ongoing.  Nothing further will be released at this time.
