“Psycho Teddy Bear threatens clerk”
On Sunday, Oct 30th 2016 at approximately 12:18 AM, Anderson Police Officers were dispatched and responded to the Baymont Inn, located on the 2000 Block of Arby Way. It was reported that a subject dressed as an evil looking bear had been looking into vehicles and was now holding a knife to his throat.
Upon arrival at the Baymont Inn, Officers were directed to the subject who was found outside the business. The subject was identified as Travis Wallace, 28, of Anderson. Wallace was contacted and found to be wearing a Psycho Teddy Bear brand costume. Wallace was detained in handcuffs for officer safety and searched for weapons. Wallace was armed with two 10 ½ inch hunting style knives, a folding pocket knife, and a box cutter.
During the course of the investigation it was determined that Wallace was too intoxicated to care for his own safety and he was placed under arrest for public intoxication. Upon interviewing the desk clerk at the business it was determined Wallace had come out of one of the rooms dressed as the Psycho Teddy Bear. Wallace stood behind the clerk for approximately 20 seconds staring at him, walked approximately 5 feet turned and stared at the clerk again (not talking). The clerk turned and saw Wallace. Wallace then lifted his shirt exposing one of the hunting style knives.
The clerk stated Wallace walked away and he (the clerk) went to the front desk. The clerk said Wallace went into the laundry room area where he looked into the surveillance camera, removed one of the knives, and displayed it to the camera, making several stabbing motions. Wallace then slid the blade across his neck as if threatening to slit the clerk’s throat. The clerk stated he did not find it funny, did not see it as a joke, and was in fear for his safety so he called 911.
Wallace was placed under arrest for exhibiting a deadly weapon, criminal threats, carrying concealed fixed blade knife, and public intoxication. Wallace was transported to the Shasta County Jail where he was booked on the above charges.
With the Halloween season quickly approaching, the Anderson Police Department would like to remind citizens to be responsible in their actions. Some things which may seem like a harmless joke to some are not looked at as harmless or funny by others. These pranks/ jokes could quickly turn criminal. With the increasing national attention of “creepy clown” activity, the Anderson Police Department is urging people to use greater common sense this Halloween.
