Morning Crash Sends Four To Hospital

Richmond – A two vehicle crash this morning on US 27 at Arba Pike, just north of Richmond, sent four people to Reid Health Hospital in Richmond with a variety of injuries.  Master Trooper Paul Harrison was at US 27 and I-70 when a passing motorist advised him the crash had just occurred.

He arrived to find that a 2009 Buick, driven by Nancy Jo Whirley, age 75 of Richmond, had turned left from Arba Pike attempting to go south on US 27, when it turned into the path of a north bound 2012 Ford passenger car driven by Claire Baker, age 32 of Richmond. The preliminary investigation indicates that the north bound Ford swerved left attempting to avoid the Buick, but the vehicles hit head on in the turn lane of south bound US 27.

The driver of the Buick, Nancy Jo Whirley, was transported with a complaint of pain, while her passenger, Joseph Whirley, age 75, was transported with numerous fractures. Claire Baker, the driver of the Ford, was transported for a complaint of pain to her leg and torso.  Her passenger, Jasmine Roosa, age 14 of Richmond, was transported for a hip injury.

Claire Baker, the driver of the Ford, was issued a citation for Operating without Insurance.  Master Trooper Harrison was assisted in his investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department. Seatbelts were in use during this crash, and were effective in reducing injuries.
