Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III, and Chief of Detectives John J. Kuczynski, announced a Hunterdon County Grand Jury returned an indictment charge against Veljko Kitanovski of Paterson NJ on October 27, 2016 for Impersonating a Police Officer, a fourth degree crime. The charges stemmed from an August 1, 2016 Motor Vehicle Stop by New Jersey State Troopers on I-78 in Union Township. During the stop Mr. Kitanovski told the State Trooper that he was an undercover police detective from Paterson Police Department however failed to provide any credentials. Upon further investigation with Passaic County officials it was determined that he was not a police officer. Prosecutor Kearns stated he “commended the Troopers for their efforts and diligence in checking up on Mr. Kitanovski’s claims. Someone falsely portraying himself as a police officer is a serious offense and is of great concern to legitimate law enforcement agencies as well as the general public.”
