It's that time of the year again where scammers are trying anything to defraud unsuspecting consumers out of their hard earned money.

Currently, fraudsters are calling residents and business owners purporting to be from Georgia Power to collect fictitious payments.

The scammers ask victims to go to a local retailer such as Wal-Mart, Rite-Aid, CVS or Walgreens to purchase a money pack for the payment amount. They are then instructed to call another number to share the account number on that prepaid card.

Remember - Georgia Power does not conduct business in such a manner.
