Two robberies in remote areas of local mountains - one man wounded. Detectives seeking information.
Sheriff’s detectives assigned to San Dimas Station are investigating two robberies that occurred overnight Wednesday and Thursday in the San Gabriel Mountains. While it’s not clear the two incidents are connected, they were in relatively close proximity a few hours apart.
In the first incident, deputies responded to Azusa Police Department and contacted two victims who reported they were robbed at gunpoint near Highway 39, mile marker 19.23, at about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday night (11/02/2016). The victims, a 25 year old female and a 25 year old male, said they were parked at the roadside when they were approached by two men who demanded their property. One of them appeared to be armed with a pistol. The victims surrendered a small amount of cash and two cell phones. There were no injuries, and the suspects fled into the darkness. No vehicle was seen, and the victims could not provide a more detailed description of the suspects.
At about 6:00 a.m. on Thursday (11/03/2016) deputies responded to San Dimas Community Hospital. A 38 year old male reported that he was with a friend in the San Gabriel Mountains, on East Fork Road about ¼ mile east of Highway 39. At about 1:30 a.m. he was approached by a male Hispanic with a handgun who demanded money. As the victim retrieved cash from his wallet, a struggle ensued and the suspect shot the victim in the right leg before driving away in a newer model Chrysler. Obtained was approximately $800.00 US currency. The victim was driven to the hospital and treated for a superficial gunshot wound to the right leg. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 30-35 years of age, 5’08” tall, heavy set, approximately 235 pounds, wearing a white t-shirt.
Anyone having information regarding either of these incidents is asked to call detectives at San Dimas Station, (909)450-2700. The Sheriff’s Department would like to remind visitors to the remote mountain areas to exercise caution, particularly late at night in areas with no cell service. While there is no evidence of a crime pattern related to these two incidents, robberies of this nature have occurred in the local mountains several times per year.

The San Dimas Booster Club was established in 1991 to provide a means to raise money for the needs of auxiliary personnel and volunteers who work at the San Dimas Station. The Booster Club has provided thousands of dollars for the purchase of equipment and supplies and to provide specialized training and education to volunteers. Virtually all of the funding for these programs is through the efforts of the Booster Club, as neither the Sheriff’s Department nor the County of Los Angeles provides a budget for these services. The San Dimas Sheriff’s Booster Club continues the proud tradition of meeting the needs of the volunteer/reserve program at the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station. The Booster Club consists of people like yourself - residents, merchants, and business owners - who band together to make a positive difference in our community. The Booster Club members and the Board of Directors are very proud of their accomplishments and invite you to join them in making this important program even more successful.
