Trooper Arrests Two Separate Drivers for Excessive Speed
Vermillion County—On Wednesday evening November 2nd at 5:50, Indiana State Police Trooper Chuck Murphy was patrolling along State Road 63, when noticed a silver 2002 Ford Mustang traveling northbound on SR63 near County Road 150 South, at 94 miles-per-hour in a 60mph zone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver identified as 19-year-old John H. Noah of Lowell, Indiana. A passenger in the vehicle was identified as 18-year-old Kyle Nelson of Indianapolis, Indiana. During conversations with the occupants, Trooper Murphy noticed a smell of what appeared to be burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. Trooper Michael Organ and his K-9 “Zeke arrived to assist and “Zeke” gave a positive indication for marijuana. Troopers located approximately two grams of suspected marijuana inside the vehicle.
John Noah was incarcerated in the Vermillion County Jail for Reckless Driving, a class B misdemeanor. Kyle Nelson was incarcerated in the Vermillion County Jail for Possession of Marijuana, class B misdemeanor and Possession of a False Identification, class A Misdemeanor.
On Thursday evening, November 3rd at 7:15, Indiana State Police Trooper Chuck Murphy was patrolling State Road 63 near County Road 1300 North, when he noticed a 2010 black Lexus northbound on SR 63 at 113 miles-per-hour in a 60mph zone. As Trooper Murphy caught up to the vehicle to make a traffic stop, the Lexus was then traveling at 102mph in a 45mph zone near the Interstate 74 interchange. The driver was identified as 19-year-old Derry D. Fan of Bowling Brook, Illinois. Derry D. Fan was taken into custody for Reckless Driving, B misdemeanor and Possession of a False Identification, A misdemeanor and incarcerated in the Vermillion County Jail. Trooper Murphy was assisted by Vermillion County Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Hall.
