Patrol Emphasis on Impaired Driving in November & December
Anacortes Police Officers made 64 DUI arrests in the first 9 months of this year. Though many of those impaired driving incidents did not result in accidents, several involved vehicle damage and rollovers that could have caused more significant damage to property or people.
The Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC) asserts that impaired driving is a leading factor in Washington traffic deaths. With the help of agencies state-wide, including the Anacortes Police Department, WTSC is working to keep impaired drivers off the road. State impaired driving goals include: increasing impaired driving arrests, improving prosecution, setting up more DUI courts, and promoting the use of ignition-interlock devices. In Washington, impaired driving is defined in three ways: driving while under the influence of drugs; driving while impaired by alcohol; driving with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 percent or above.
In an effort to prevent avoidable accidents and injuries, the APD Patrol Unit is focusing on impaired driving enforcement in November and December. Be part of the solution, don’t drive when you’re impaired.
