Daylight Saving Time Ends Tonight - Turn Clocks Back An Hour And Check Home and Car Safety Before Winter Arrives
Sheriff Bowen reminds everyone that Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00am tonight. Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour when you go to bed this evening. While setting your clocks, it is an ideal opportunity to test and replace batteries in smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and other safety devices. Each spring and fall during the time change , our first responder fire fighter partners remind everyone that it is important to check your devices and replace the batteries at least annually.
This is also a good time to create a disaster supply kit for your home and an emergency kit for your vehicle. With winter weather soon to be knocking on the door, make sure you are equipped with flashlights, batteries, food, water, blankets and other supplies in case of an emergency in your home or car. A duffel bag marked “Emergency Kit” is easy to store and find when needed.
As darkness comes earlier in the evening, check to make sure outdoor lighting is in good working order. Keeping the area around a house well lit is a deterrent for burglars and other criminal activity. Also, don’t forget that deer are increasingly active at this time of the year, especially in the hours around dawn and dusk. Hamilton County is home to many deer and even a small deer can cause significant damage to a vehicle.
Throughout the fall and winter seasons, the Sheriff’s Office will monitor weather and road conditions and continue to send notifications through Facebook, Twitter, and Nixle. We hope you are finding these services useful and effective.
