Corona Driver Convicted of 2nd Degree Murder

On November 8, 2016 Eduardo Alvarez was convicted of all charges including 2nd degree murder for his driving actions in an incident that occurred on August 9, 2015. On that date at approximately 9:25 p.m., evidence showed that Eduardo Alvarez (26-year-old of Corona) was driving his Nissan Maxima eastbound on Sixth Street in the City of Corona at speeds between 80 MPH to 100 MPH from the intersection of Victoria Avenue, up to Promenade Avenue. Several witnesses testified that the Nissan Maxima was driving recklessly, cutting off motorists, and failing to stop at solid red signal lights. When the Nissan Maxima reached the intersection of Sixth Street and Promenade Avenue, Eduardo Alvarez drove through a solid red signal light, and the front end of the Nissan Maxima collided with the right front passenger side of a silver Mazda 3.

According to witness testimony, Jacob George (23-year-old of Corona) was driving the Mazda 3 southbound through the intersection on a green signal light, with his girlfriend, Courtney Ferranto (22-year-old of Corona), seated in the front passenger seat, when the Nissan Maxima struck it. Ferranto died as a result of the injuries she received during this collision. Further witness testimony and physical evidence proved that at the time of the collision, Eduardo Alvarez had a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit, combined with cocaine and marijuana. Eduardo Alvarez was remanded to custody with the Riverside County Sheriff Office. Sentencing will take place on January 12, 2017.
