Michigan Avenue Update
As each day draws to a close, the Michigan Ave project gets closer to being completed. City Staff and Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) representatives began walking the project site today to start a punch list (final items that need to be reworked and/or completed). The top course of asphalt is complete on the north half of the project. The top course of asphalt for the south half of Michigan Ave is scheduled for next Wednesday. The remainder of this week includes: raising manhole structures and completing landscaping/tree plantings. The entrance to Curtiss Park will be closed as of today and will remain closed for two weeks while a new concrete entrance is installed.
Note: The intersection at Old Creek Drive and Michigan Ave will be closed beginning first thing in the morning on Monday, November 14th for paving. Old Creek Drive is expected to be re-opened by the end of the day on Monday, November 14th.
Note: When Cadillac Asphalt is topping the side street intersections and various small paved areas, there will be intermittent/short-term closures and/or flagging crews to maintain traffic. Please be aware as you travel Michigan Ave.
Note: Trash pick-up for those residents and businesses located in the construction zone – Waste Management will continue to pick up trash as regularly scheduled, however, due to the construction there may be instances when your trash is not picked-up on the regular day. If this happens, Waste Management will be picking up the missed trash collection the next day. Additionally, if Waste Management is not able to pick up your trash/recycling as regularly scheduled City staff encourages folks to contact the Department of Public Works (DPW) with questions/comments at 429-5624.
The City of Saline is selling pieces of the old street car tracks on a first come first served basis at City Hall, for those folks that would like to own a piece of Saline history. The cost is $25 for a 12” section of track; a portion of the proceeds will be used to pay for the cost of cutting up the track with the balance going towards a fundraiser to assist in paying for the new downtown streetscape.
Week of November 14th:
Traffic Information
The following streets are scheduled to remain open this coming week: All streets should remain open except for the Old Creek Drive/Michigan Ave intersection is scheduled to be closed for one day on Monday, November 14th for paving. Also, there will be intermittent closures/flag crews at the various intersections when Cadillac Asphalt is paving. Please be aware when navigating Michigan Ave.
Note: The entrance to Curtiss Park is scheduled to be closed beginning today, November 10th and is expected to be closed for approximately two weeks as work is completed.
Note: Full access from N. Ann Arbor Street to Downtown Parking Lot #1 (NE quadrant of downtown) has been completely restored. Hall Street is scheduled to be restored to one-way traffic as of Monday, November 14th. This means that vehicles will no longer be able to access Hall Street from McKay Street as of Monday, November 7th.
City staff encourages everyone to slow down, be patient and obey the traffic signs. In addition, please do not take short-cuts through private property in an attempt to avoid the current traffic shifts/detour routes, as it is illegal and unsafe. And please pause to let people out of their driveways.
Pedestrian Traffic
The majority of concrete sidewalk has been installed throughout the project. However, pedestrians need to be aware of any temporary pedestrian detours from time to time as the project is completed. The temporary asphalted sidewalk on the south side of Michigan Ave at Curtiss Park and Oakwood Cemetery is scheduled to be removed and replaced with concrete later this coming week.
There are parts of the construction zone that are not open to pedestrian traffic. There are also signs designating alternate pedestrian routes throughout the construction zone. Please obey the signs and seek alternate pedestrian routes that don’t include walking down the middle of re-routed traffic lanes.
