Rossville Man Killed in Early Morning Crash on I-65 in Indianapolis

Indianapolis, IN - At approximately 5:15 this morning emergency crews were called to a serious crash on I-65 near 71st Street on the northwest side of Indianapolis. Upon arrival, the Pike Township Fire Department located a 2008 Mitsubishi well off the roadway, into a tree line and inverted. The driver was entrapped in the wreckage and unresponsive. Fire crews worked hastily to extraicate the driver, however he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Preliminary investigation determined the Mitsubishi was traveling southbound on I-65 at the 128 mile marker when it sideswiped another vehicle, ran off the road, went airborne and landed upside down in a tree line. The driver of the second vehicle, 22 year old Demetrius Jordan of Indianapolis, was not injured. As with all fatal crashes, and per Indiana law, Jordan submitted to a chemical test for intoxication. The results of that test are not available at this time, however there were no indications to investigators that led them to believe he was intoxicated.

The driver of the Mitsubishi was identified as 61 year old Kerry Dunlavey of Rossville Indiana. The cause of the crash is still under investigation and there is no further information available at this time. The Marion County Coronor's Office will conduct a death investigation that will include a blood test for drugs or alcohol.

Investigating Officers: Trooper Evan Joyner and Trooper Christopher Cannon, assisted by Trooper Cameron Bottema, Trooper Luke Berrier and Trooper Scott Keegan
