Man Who Followed Women Captured & Arrested by Anderson Police

On Monday, November 21st 2016, at around 4:00 A.M., the Anderson Police Department made an arrest in connection with several recent reports that had been filed concerning a Hispanic male driving a black sedan. In the past week or so, at least two female victims had reported being followed by what was described as a “weird” male, driving what was initially described as a black, Crown Victoria. One victim reported being followed from the Anderson Wal*Mart to the Factory Outlets. Another victim reported being followed and chased through Anderson and through the McDonald’s restaurant in Anderson.

Anderson Police collected the information and began an investigation into the reports which concluded with the arrest of 29 year old, Carlos Edwardo Acosta. According to computer records, Carlos Acosta is a resident of San Pablo, California. During the investigation, Anderson Police caught an early lead and were able to learn the license plate number of the suspect vehicle, which turned out to be a 2003, Mercury, Marauder. Police collected surveillance video footage from both Wal*Mart and McDonald’s which also assisted with Acosta’s capture.

During efforts to locate the vehicle, an Anderson Police Officer recognized the Mercury and conducted a traffic enforcement stop on the vehicle at around 4:00 A.M., on Hwy 273 near Pleasant Hills Drive. Acosta was found to be the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. He was taken into custody almost immediately after Acosta was found to have outstanding arrest warrants in both Tehama County and Colusa County. Acosta was found in possession of a deadly weapon, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and marijuana possessed for sales.

Acosta was positively identified by two separate victims as the man responsible for following, chasing and scaring them. Acosta was brought back to the Anderson Police Department and was interrogated concerning the reports initially received by the female victims in the aforementioned cases. Acosta was then booked into the Shasta County Jail on a number of fresh charges including a felony probation violation. The Mercury was also seized by police and impounded.

The case will be forwarded to the Shasta County District Attorney for review and prosecution.
