On 11-22-16, at about 10:12 PM, a Sebastopol Police Sergeant was on routine foot patrol in the downtown area of Sebastopol.

While walking through Jasper O'Farrell's, a local bar, the Sergeant heard the sound of subjects yelling in the back patio area. Upon arrival at the patio, the Sergeant saw approximately 5 subjects engaged in some unknown conflict. One of the subjects, later identified as Eric Meeker, age 41 of Sebastopol, attacked another, later identified as Damon May, age 41 (transient), with a metal canster that he was holding.

The Sergeant immediately called for back-up and moved to detain both subjects, starting with May since he was closer. The Sergeant ordered May to sit on a nearby chair, which he did. When the Sergeant turned his attention to Meeker and ordered him several times to sit on a nearby barstool, Meeker did not comply. Instead, he picked up a bar stool and moved to attack May. The Sergeant immediately deployed his Taser at Meeker, which was effective and immobolized him.

As the Sergeant placed handcuffs on Meeker, May decided to get up and leave the bar, against the Sergeant's lawful orders to remain. Upon the arrival of additional responding Officers, May was located just down the street from Jasper O'farrell's and detained.

A records check of May showed that he was on probation in Sonoma County for a previous conviction of driving under the influence. He was arrested for Resisting, Obstructing or Delaying a Peace Officer and violation of his probation.

Meeker was arrested for Assault, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Resisting, Obstructing, or Delaying a Peace Officer.

Both subjects were booked at the Sonoma County Jail.
