Bremen Post adds New Detective to Ranks
Marshall County - Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter recently announced the reclassification of Trooper Benjamin Werner to the position of detective. Detective Werner earned his assignment to Field Investigations through completion of written testing and a competitive interview process.
Werner, a 5 ½ year veteran of the Indiana State Police, graduated from Fairfield High School in Goshen and later attended Indiana University South Bend where he earned a bachelor’s degree with a major in criminal justice. Werner is a native of southern Elkhart County.
Werner graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy in March 2011, and was assigned to the Toll Road Post in Bristol. While working at the Toll Road Post Werner’s patrol duties included Porter, LaPorte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, and LaGrange Counties. Most notably, Werner was honored with being named the Toll Road Trooper of the Year for the district in 2013. The Trooper of the Year is awarded to an individual that has exemplified strength of character, a strong work ethic, and an unsurpassed level of integrity that is the embodiment of being an Indiana State Trooper.
Werner transferred to the Bremen Post in 2015 and was assigned primary patrol duties in Elkhart County. He also spent several months on temporary duty assignment as a detective. During his time with ISP Werner has also served on the Tactical Intervention Platoon, worked as a Field Training Officer, and been certified as a level 3 motor carrier inspector.
