High Speeds Result in Fatality

On 11/25/16, at approximately 11:51 AM, the Chula Vista Police Department received numerous 911 calls reporting a serious traffic accident on Olympic Parkway west of Heritage Road.

The investigation at the scene which included several witnesses, indicates a white BMW 325i was traveling westbound on Olympic Parkway west of heritage Road at a high rate of speed. A layperson estimated the speed at 95 MPH. The vehicle came upon slower traffic and was not able to negotiate the traffic. The BMW rear-ended a Honda SUV spinning it out and then striking it a second time in the driver’s side. The BMW then left the roadway striking a mature palm tree north of the sidewalk. The vehicle split into two pieces and came to rest in a drainage ditch north of the north curb line of the road with the driver pinned under the car.

Officers from the CVPD arrived along with firefighters from the CVFD to find the 22 year old Chula Vista Resident, and driver of the white BMW 325i had been ejected from the vehicle and trapped under it. He was removed from under the vehicle and transported to the trauma center at Scripps Mercy Hospital with major injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries. A passenger in the BMW was transported with minor injuries.

Officers at the scene noted the smell of burnt marijuana wafting from the BMW. It is unknown what if any role that may have played in the collision.

No one in the Honda SUV was injured.

The Chula Vista Police Traffic Division will be continuing to investigate this incident.
